Dance like no one is watching

I love dancing and everything about dancing! As I have danced my entire life I don’t ever see myself giving dance up any time soon.

Dancing is a really great way to interact with others, share your talents, share a story through a dance and also keep active!

I am able to share my life story without speaking or writing it down, instead I can just dance my story and share how I feel.

Reflection

  1. What? UNSUCCESSFUL: Creating word documents that weren’t as engaging as I needed. ( engagement /interactivity, using the SAMR framework for future planning and research). Not enough ICTs to have students complete individual work. ( technical limitations ) SUCCESSFUL:  Using Interactive resources that were engaging and educating to the students. Including students with online/offline resources within ICT Amount of time students have with ICTs  Amount of ICTs used during the students education ( the influence students have with the use of technology added to their education, setting them up for their futures).
  2. So what? This is just a basic definition for my so what, which for Assignment 3 I will consider more in depth thoughts and connections. The unsuccessful event where the word document was created, I knew by the first 3 minutes into the lesson that there was a lack of interactivity for the students to engage and educate themselves with. I understand exactly why it didn’t work as well as I thought it would because the amount of interactivity the students receive during the day is very high.  With the successful moments during my placement that incorporate ICTs was again similar as students were used to the interactive resources as well as basically expecting these resources to be a part of their education everyday. This really did help and encourage me to provide students with engaging yet suitable resources for the students to begin their learning experience.
  3. 3. Now what? Drawing on the insights generated by step 2 you now think about what you’ll do differently next time. How are you going to modify how you use ICTs to enhance student learning? For next time, and every time I am also going to consider the resources I use for the students to learn new knowledge as well as engaging with the activity. Focusing on suitable yet engaging activities will allow the concept of the lesson to be learnt and achieved high results from the students.  Lack of ICTs is hard because it is always up to the school on how many ICT resources they provide to the school, this is tricky however….. if I plan lessons out that require half the class to use the first section of the lesson on MacBooks while the other half of the class remain on the mat for something different and rotating in time to engage with the next activity could help and reflect on individual time spent on their MacBooks.  From the successful experiences I discovered, I will also make sure the resources are engaging and education throughout my teaching.

You can visit these questions from this page on the study desk. And also if you want to consider the SAMR Framework which I highly recommend for your future planning. I was lost with Assignment 3 until I re read Learning Path 15 for this week. I recommend you also read this too!!!

For more reflection on professional experience head over to TEGS6 blog page and read through her blogs, I enjoy reading others experience.

On the Study desk for this weeks learning experience the following questions on describing each learning experience:

Giving students an opportunity to use ICT throughout the students learning experiences allows for engagement as well as education. An experience I have chosen to point out to you all reading is an ICT lesson I had with the students during my time at placement, introducing  a new letter to the students vocabulary.

  1. What happened in the experience?
The prep students were introduced to a new letter in the english class, this lesson had a lot of ICT resources used throughout the lesson. Students read a story based on the new letter, then listened and watched a song on the interactive whiteboard, followed by online activities that represented the new letter.
  2.  Whom was involved?
    All of the prep students.

  3.  What happened?
The prep students used ICT resources to gain an understanding on the new letter that was introduced to the class.

  4. when?
During their english lesson, normally on a Tuesday and Thursday students would learn a new letter.

  5. where?
    In the preps classroom.

  6. and perhaps why?
The prep students are still at the level where they are learning to write, spell and sound out words to create sentences, these ICT resources engage and educate students with the new letter concept. These resources show a range of educational resources that students can relate to while educating themselves on new sounds, letters and words.

  7. What had you planned or thought would happen?
I planned the lesson exactly how my mentor would plan these lessons as if I wasn’t there because her class is familiar and understanding the new concept they are learning in the classroom.  At first I thought this wouldn’t help students give them all an understanding on the new letter however it really did.

  8. What did happen?
Students engaged with the learning experience activities that ICT resources offered. They engaged with the online activities and really improved on their sounds.

  9. Was it a successful or not so successful experience in terms of using ICTs to enhance student learning?
I believe this was successful because the prep students could walk away with a sound understanding as well as an enjoyable learning experience, allowing students to want more to do with the learning concept and ICT resources. The students loved using the online resources to understand the concept and they all completed the tasks.

  10. What evidence can you point to that supports your judgement that it was successful or not so successful?
Evidence to me is shown by the way students can pronounce the sounds correctly and select the online activities were completed successfully and by this it was demonstrated with students first choice of the answer on the online questions. As the lesson continued on I always made sure I would be observing the students progress to give myself an understanding by the end of the lesson if students were understanding the concept of lesson and who may need more assistants. I have received feedback from my mentor that the lesson was achieved at a high level as I had all students truly engaged as well as educated throughout the entire lesson.

  11. What were your immediate thoughts and feelings arising from this experience?
Immediately thoughts and feelings are how proud of my commitment, efforts and time I spent on the lesson to really engage with students because I honestly want them to be educating as well as enjoy what they are learning at school. I achieved this by putting the time and passion into the lesson to allow this goal of mine to be achieved! I am proud of what I did and would do it again every day if I could, can’t wait to be a teacher!!!!

This is 1 reflection on a lesson I used for an English lesson for the Prep students while I was on my professional experience and I enjoyed and learnt so much about the students, myself and the ICT resources that we can use to incorporate the learning experience while educating the students. The sunshine online website that was used majority of the english lessons where new letters are introduced to the students, and it honestly is a really great resource to use during the lesson. You do need to sign up for trials to use it so maybe sign up when professional placement is around, however I was lucky enough that this was a set resource activity the preps used. Go check it out 🙂
Hopefully everyone is doing well with Assignment 3 however if anyone has any tips on completing Part D mainly over the factors section.  I am someone who will need to go back and reconsider all of the frameworks and make sure I give it my all throughout assignment 3.
Anyone have any advice on Part D for assignment 3, mainly the factors sections.??? Please respond if you do??

And to conclude my reflection post, everyone have you jumped over to read Lisa Roses Blog page on her school commitment she had made to attend the schools Sports day! It seems like a lot of fun and can’t wait to attend things like this when I start teaching 🙂

Our professional experience has come to an end and I am really excited to return to the school again for my next placement! I am so glad I have finally found something I love doing everyday. It gives me a smile every day thinking it is what I will do every day after I graduate next year!!!

Throughout my placement I noticed some people stating it was hard to imply ICT’s into their learning experiences.  I came across a blog and it stated the difficulties they were having. You can view it here!
I seemed to be a very lucky Prac student who used ICT in every lesson, because it was a daily routine for this classroom! I had the interactive whiteboard, music, videos, online activities, macbook sessions and recordings in many of the lessons I was teaching, I was so lucky that this was the preps daily routine activities ( using ICTs to enhance their learning skills)!
What an amazing mentor I had, she didn’t notice how much they actually use ICT resources everyday until I explained what ICT resources can be!
I noticed they mentioned HPE was hard with ICT as well and I completely agree ( however ) did you know the use of a stop watch is classified as an ICT resource! Maybe make a lesson where students will be timed with the stop watch or include stop watches in groups where they time their best running time or something they are learning in HPE at the time.

As I stated in my last post, I used a lot of online resources only because this was a set structure plan for the prep student so this was a requirement that I had to incorporate as it was schools policy! So i believe I was very lucky however looking at the online resources that I had to use, they were really engaging and education for the students ( especially Prep)! Sunshine online was an everyday resource when the students were introduced to a new letter during English, and the students loved learning through this page and they achieved my mentors requirements for their learning.
Sunshine online also allowed students to read books, spell words, find missing letters and many more things that could be added to their English curriculum learning.

How have you enjoyed your placement?

Now for me to get straight into Assignment 3 and complete Part D!!!!

Connect.ed

I noticed my Connect.ed post hasn’t shown on my blog page so here it is again..

We were asked to work through and complete four modules on Connect.ed, which at first I thought ‘ How am I going to get this done on top of everything else’ however I am so glad I took the time out of my assignments and study to complete this. There are so many things that you are not aware of that include cyber bullying and I felt useless when I didn’t even know about this! I honestly thought I knew a lot about cyber bullying and how to avoid it however there is a lot more to it then that after completing the four modules. The information I have gained as really encouraged the way I will incorporate into my ICT curriculum throughout the classes.
I really enjoyed the videos and scenarios from the modules and how the used real life experience for students and teachers today. Especially when it allows you to watch this video giving myself an idea of what young people are actually doing online. The numbers are just jumping out at me each time I watch the video, and this is just 1 part of module 1!

I believe in that after looking through all the stories and quizzes that once you complete this you will have a good understanding on cyber bullying, what to expect and how to deal with situations.

David has requested we look over Tegs6 blog, and after reading her blog she has basically provided us with the information I wanted to share and that is the cyber bullying detective activity with allows the students to be involved in something serious and important to everyone. It becomes an activity that provides a positive experience to the students on an important area of learning throughout our futures. Once this activity can be incorporated into the students lives, they can carry it along with their knowledge and become more aware of what is going on through digital citizenship.

Only 1 week left!

Hey everyone,

How has everyone’s placement been treating them? Mine, has been more then I could ask for as I am lost for words. I honestly believe this has been my favourite and the best I have been teaching since! I have had so much positive feedback, as well as mentors asking me to return for help during the days where she may need extra help! To me thats a really good achievement for myself because I enjoy teaching more then anything!
Besides learning about how to be a good teacher and doing the best I can, I have also learnt a lot more then I was expecting with the Prep Class. I have learnt new ideas and strategies on how to teach new things such as sounds, words, numbers and concepts to the prep students because their lesson structures are very different compared to year 2 and above which I have had recently. A lot of people may think, they just colour, cut, glue and play but there is a whole different story to what it’s like every day in a prep classroom. You are giving these students are head start to their future.
I have been teaching every day and majority of the day as well, this week I have taken on teaching lessons for the entire day which I haven’t done that before and I enjoy it so much! I believe I am more excited because I am happy and proud that I have a passion for teaching and educating students and I can’t wait to soon graduate and be out there doing it for a career. ( I believe it is really rare these days for someone to be in their desired carer).
When I started placement I was overwhelmed and stressed with incorporating ICT into my lessons because of the age group I was provided, my mentor said the same thing. She was concerned her class didn’t get enough ICT resources throughout their education until I explained what type of ICT resources could be used.
The prep students engage really well with interactive lessons and this was my job to keep teaching the class and interacting as well as educating the students. I came across this website Topmarks and it became a really useful tool in my lessons, funny thing is my mentor loves this website and found it really helpful throughout the entire prep curriculum ( the whole school uses it for the early year grades).
The really great thing about this website is that, it includes many year levels as well as many different subjects to chose from, wether it be maths, english, or even religion there was always something that could help me out!
The school I am placed in is very religious and over the 3 weeks I have been incorporating a religion lesson into my teaching which is something new for myself. Topmarks has this religion section which is designed with different key stages in the learning steps of teaching a religion classroom. I loved it because I could use a useful resource and still engage and educate the students!

I also still use Education for more worksheets and activities for ideas throughout the lesson. It provides a variety of activities and worksheets for different subjects as well as suitable requirements for each year level.

And finally Sunshine Online! What an amazing website!!! I have enjoyed using this website through out my placement for EDC3100 and grateful the school has used this over the past 2 years of their Prep – year 3 education. It has provided the students with some engaging and education activities, games and stories for each year level. If you haven’t had a look I recommend you do so 🙂

Enjoy your final week on professional experience and I hope the best results turn up for each of you!

Placement starts next week!

Every one prepared for their 3 week placement starting on Monday? I know I am a little nervous and stressed at this stage!

Monday just passed I went to visit my school and class, turns out they have placed me at a school I graduated from!
I went to the Prep class and this class was Crazy! They are filled with a lot of energy and a lot of different abilities and needs from each student!

The teacher started off the middle session on the classroom mat, in front of their Interactive white board where they started the lesson of with the class creating the calendar. Students were selected to click on the date, day and what the weather was like for the day. The students really enjoyed this activity and it engaged the whole class.
After this activity the students moved on to ‘Shapes’ now this was really good for me considering my Mathematics course focusses on Prep and Shapes! Prefect for me to include anything from Mathematics into my Prac next week!
The students watched two video songs on two shapes, a circle and a triangle. The students would sing a long to the song and create the shape in the hair using their fingers as a pen.

The one thing I love seeing is how well they respect their schools religion and what is required from each class. For example students must welcome their teachers with Good Morning or Afternoon as well as ‘God Bless you’. Every student would say this out loud and to provide students with the knowledge on these quotes and reasons, a religion class is prepared for the students in two lessons during the week.

My teacher has already given me my first week on teaching lessons and I will be 100% honest, I am very nervous! I have 5 sessions with the class and it’s a really different structure and set out compared to a year 2, 5 or 7 class lesson.

I have come across this wonderful resource website ‘Teachers pay Teachers’ it has been so helpful to my studies this semester as I have been able to look up and gain more ideas and knowledge on certain strands!
I have been using some to incorporate into my lessons and using ideas to create my own ideas on the activities.
I defiantly think you should have a look.

Now moving onto Assignment 3, I am a little late at starting this assignment however I really hope that I can pull it all off and have another successful semester!

One week left till Assignment 2 is due, anyone else glad we received an extension? I know I am!

This extra week, I feel it gives me another chance to consider everything for assignment 2. I am able to look back and consider other ideas as well as ask for more feedback on what my ideas are or guided by teachers and other students on sections I have always struggled with.
I have been researching the amount of different technology and the use of these inside the classroom, there is many different varieties of technology used and the ways we incorporate these into our students education is creative, engaging and educating. Using computers, laptops, and iPads allows our students to gain experience and knowledge for their futures, students will walk out of school at graduation and appreciate their education with the use of ICT just as much as I did!
If I didn’t receive any ICT knowledge at school, i’m not really sure how I would be coping right now ( or even back when I got my first job, because I needed to use a computer!). These educating ICT lessons, and lessons with an ICT resources to complete tasks gives every student a new knowledge to take on and consider more through out their lives giving each student an opportunity to face ICT challenges through out their chosen career paths.

This doesn’t just encourage and educate students, it helps teachers as well! I can’t wait to incorporate ICT in my students education, and I believe it’s important to understand how to use ICTs appropriate to give students a high level of education and resources!

StellaEDC3100 mentions in a blog how reading blogs has helped her learning and I agree 100% with StellaEDC3100. I have found creating and viewing other students blogs, I am gaining new knowledge that I have not considered through the course due to always focusing on the study desk, completing activities and focusing on my assignments. Listening to other students blogs always gives me an understanding on how amazing technology is that we can all sit here at home and blog to our viewers with the chance to communicate with other students and not always going through to the StudyDesk

I wanted to change the subject for a moment and talk about how I am feeling, defiantly overwhelmed! Honestly I do have a lot going on, but I am doing my best and that’s all that matters to me and I am so proud of my achievements and where I am today ( I am half way through my 3rd year nearly!!! I do always forget that i’m not alone, and I can across Anouk Matthews and the blog caught my attention because I saw this as a reflection on myself and how I am feeling. I do believe it’s because I don’t attend a University Campus and I study and watch tutorials all at home on my computer but i’m not alone! Theres hundreds of online students and sometimes we all focus on how stressed we are when it comes to our assessments/tasks/job to complete on certain times yet we don’t understand we are all going through the same situations.
I just want to say, I hope you can all think about others around you and that we are all here to help each other out.

Thank you to Anouk Matthews for making me understand I am not alone on this journey!

I hope you are all enjoying your Easter Break, however it doesn’t feel like a break! So many things to do right now, which is why I decided that I really needed to go back with Week 4 due to some confusions and reflections needed I felt.

I came across the ‘Week 2 Lecture‘ and David Jones mentions ” To improve the course, we need to focus more on what is needed and what we can take away into our teaching careers more then focusing on our blogs and completing activities that don’t make much sense to us. Instead we should be finding resources and reflecting on how to be an educator in ICT”.

After going over this, it really made me stop and think about WHY I am doing this? I am doing this because I want to benefit myself in every learning area to provide my students in the future with a variety of ways to learn and engage in their education.
If you read the activities that we are required to do sometimes to be honest I sit there trying really hard to complete them and thinking “Why do I have to do this”! Now I look back and it’s amazing how those ‘annoying’ activities soon became really helpful to my studies and especially assignment 1 ( with ICT resources to use within the lesson I am creating for the students).
Audrey’s ICT Adventure demonstrates what an importance of this is and I believe this is because Audrey went out of her way to challenge herself with copyright. Audrey faced a challenge on the way, however she worked her way around this by using ways that we have all been talking about through Study desk about copyright. How much did it help Audrey out?

Assignment 2 is getting closer:
As Audrey and Isabella have mentioned in their blogs previously that it’s really time to get stuck into Assignment 2. Now that the due date is approaching up on me, I think this is when I start to stress out and worry about everything! I do this a lot, but there comes a time when I stop and think to myself ‘Why am I doing this’ and this is because its a dream and passion I have for educating children and I will do my best to give every student a variety of resources throughout their education.

Researching for new resources:
Today was a first for me to really get stuck into researching for more resources to use, and I took the time to give Scootle a chance! I think because I don’t give myself enough credit and lack confidence in learning and teaching ICT, I didn’t give Scootle a chance? Well after researching on Scootle today, I was a little disappointed in myself for not using Scootle more in my education studies.
To give you guys an idea on what I have learnt and based on the Curriculum I have chosen for Assignment 2 – History Year 2.
Scootle allows you to select the subject and year level and you are able to look at the elaborations and matching resources. This was fantastic, because I could look at the suggestions and create my own style of resources to suit the content descriptions. I am defiantly using Scootle throughout my career!

Enjoy the rest of the Easter Break, study right and enjoy your learning time 🙂
